Oil CHange killing Coils?

I have a 2012 Mini Cooper S
Every time I do an oil change, whether myself or a shop, the coils burn out. I was thinking maybe it was a faulty ground on the engine, but the only ground I know of that could be related is the engine ground on the backside under the airbox. Can anyone else think of something that may be causing it? As soon as I change the coils after the oil change it all works again.

That has to be some sort of unusual coincidence or something.... I can’t think of any reason that an an oil change would kill your coils....but with that said, these cars are all a little quirky! Maybe it’s just some weird coincidence of timing (not engine timing, lol). That’s just kind of odd. But I’ve had plugs fail before after very short amount of time once on mine. But I think I just had a bunk plug. Are you using OEM coils?

I was, now im just using the duralasts. But it happens literally every oil change. I've had the car since 2015 and I've had to replace them every single time. Is there a ground for the oil pump that could cause it something like that?

Not that I’m aware of.
I haven’t ever used the Duralast coils, but I bought some high output “performance “ coils once, and they caused major misfire issues, when I went back to new OEM coils it made a huge difference. The ones with the MINI logo are ridiculously expensive, but you can find the Delphi OEM coils with the correct part # but not the MINI logo on Amazon for a decent price. I think I paid just under $100 for all 4. And they shipped directly from Delphi

that's really weird

I've been doing DIY oil changes on GEN1 and 2 since 2003 and have NEVER replaced a coil ..... mine are/were OE

Are you bumping the ground on the front near the valve cover part of the harness?

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...lve-cover.html

Its sets on the center post where you mount the valve cover to the head right behind the turbo to the engine

Not that it's a solution but try unplugging the coil tube connectors when doing the next service, if they are not plugged in they shouldn't short circuit.
