Lots and lots of problems on my 02 mini s

So my cousin told me if I could fix his mini. I could have it. It's a 2002 mini Cooper s and he put a few mods on it but about 8 or so years ago when he was still using it as his car something happened that I haven't gotten a very detailed description of. Apparently when he was driving it was having trouble going into gear. Then he got it stuck in first gear. He limped it home and my grandfather. (Who knew the most about the car) started messing with it and he said that he thought it was the slave cylinder. So my cousin just got tired of messing with it and let it sent. After a while some rats decided to move in and it had rights for a long time. So I started messing with it over the summer and the fuel pump had gone bad so I replaced it and changed the oil .the car started. But still didn't go into gear. You could cycle gear with the car was off and you could put it in first start it up and drive in fisrt but then you couldnt pull it out. And after a few times of starting the car the dash quit working completely which at the time I didn't think to much of. I had to go back home and start school back. And I came back over thanksgiving and the fuel pump wasn't turning on. Nor was the relay so I started digging at the wiring and there was I good bit chewed through so I spliced it back together buy its still not working. The cars back end supposedly went into a pond but the fuse box at the bottom of the driver side was covered in mud and stuff. But the fuel pump fuse plus the blue and white wire only get power when the engine is cranking and I grounded the brown and black wires from the fuel pump and the gauges come on note all my lights are on on the dash but I'm having a lot of trouble. Anyone got any ideas? Or someone I can call? I'll try and post some pictures and videos once I'm out of class I just really need some help and I don't have the money to take it anyhwere considering I'm 17 and I think I have maybe 200$ any help would be a lifesaver I might just replace the wiring harness on the inside

First replace the fuse box and wiring that’s chewed. You’ll never get that back to 100% and too many issues can be related to bad connections. Replace the battery too. Someone else can chime in on the shift issue.

I did replace the battery over the summer but I had to recharge it when I came back over Thanksgiving break. And I've found the main wiring harness for the interior on eBay but I can't find a unused one anywhere but I will definitely replace the fuse box.

Yup, fix the obvious chewed wires and harness. Charge the battery and give it another go. Check the shift cables which are below the airbox (although it sounds like they are working since you can shift when turned off). I would just get a new slave and flush the brakes and clutch. If you're lucky that's all it is, sounds like your clutch is not engaging but you gotta get in there to verify.

Good luck! Great price on the Mini.
