When I got my 07 MCS project car someone had taken off the valve cover at least once before me. During the compression check we found a dowel laying in the head valley. Only one.
So doing some looking around it looks like the two center bolts require the found dowels so the valve cover can’t be crushed when tightening.
So I ordered the valve cover dowels from Way Motor and this is what I got. (See pics). I reread the description and it says they are alignment dowels. Now I am even more confused as my valve cover does not have alignment dowels.
What am I missing? Where can I get another larger dowel like the one I found?
The items you received are possibly item 3 on realOEM - engine - cylinder head. Take a look at RealOEM - engine - engine block, there's several more dowels shown. You probably need to measure yours to find the right one, then decide whether or not you need to disassemble and discover which one, if any, is missing. I'm pretty sure it doesn't belong in the head valley.
I rechecked my head and valve cover and there are no smaller dowels. I did check RealOEM and see what you are talking about. I am taking off the mount where the HPFP is at tonight. Maybe those small dowels are under that.

Your new dowel is probably one of the two found under this "bridge" --- at the arrows. They are quite a bit smaller than your unknown. The dowel you found in the valve valley appears to be much bigger, like maybe the ones between the tranny and block, or between the head and block.
I strongly recommend you measure the unknown dowel and compare it to the RealOEM lists. Otherwise you'll do a lot of unnecessary disassembly, like removing the HPFP. You should be interested in learning about the unknown dowel, not the ones you bought.
