I think we need another topic like "Mechanical Issues" in Beneath the Bonnet, but called "Recalls" or something like that.

Several times people have mentioned in passing that their Service Dept replaced some minor part based on a Recall (and AFTER the owner complained)... and NONE of us have even heard about the recall. It seems that BMW & MINI keep non-safety recalls kind of secret.

Anyway, I think this new topic would help us all become aware of these 'non-important' (in MINIUSA's opinion) Recalls. Maybe one of the moderators could tag this topic with the pushpin or whatever so that it stays at the top of the forum with the "Mechanical Issues" topic. Thanks!

Anyone have anything to contribute?

I'll start it off...

Shift cable linkage recall :

Affects VIN Range TC30066-34812. Return to dealer to get clip installed on linkage connection.

Hard to get it fixed when the Dealer has been back ordered for over a month at my Dealership.

It seems that there's a second gearbox recall. We've just got Nellie back from the BMW bodyshop after her rear bumper was replaced following a stupid driver hitting us (see seperate thread) and we got them to do the recall work from the gear linkage problem while she was there (that and fixing the airbag light problem, which required swapping a whole cable loom under the seats). When we collected her, the BMW rep told us they'd done *both* gearbox recall jobs. Supposedly we'll be getting the second notice through the post soon. The recall is for some gearshift parts that make the gearshift 'loose' (something we'd noticed) because they are wearing faster than intended.

While the multiple recalls are a bit of a pain, I'm glad BMW are at least owning up to the problems and fixing them, rather than just waiting for Minis to start breaking down.
