R50 Electrical Issues
R50 Electrical Issues
I have a 2006 Mini Hardtop that recently is giving me a headache. While I was driving, the instrument cluster froze and my turn signal stopped working, as in the outside lights weren't flashing. Once I parked, I disconnected the battery until I could figure out what I was going to do. Upon returning to the car, I re-connected the battery and the instrument cluster and on board computer were stuck on; they will stay on unless I disconnect the battery or pull fuse F21 for the instrument cluster. The on board computer will turn on, but nothing displays except for the temperature, and that constantly shows 122 F. For the instrument cluster, the speedometer works just fine, the engine temperature works, but it slowly creeps up or down to the correct temperature, and the gas gauge shows that I have an empty tank and the red light is on, but I know I have at least half a tank.
Before this happened, I would have intermittent issues with the blower motor not working, some of the interior lights not turning on, and the rear hatch lock not unlocking unless I pulled on the manual release under the rear seat. These could sometime be resolved by tapping on the foot well by the fuse box. Not sure if it's related or not.
I've checked all the fuses, and everything appears to be fine. Battery voltage is in line, both when the vehicle is off and when running. I took a look at the exterior of the BCM and didn't see any rust, corrosion, or moisture. I tried to pull code from the OBDII port, but it won't connect (could be the port or code reader, as it's given me issues in the past).
I'm not really sure where to go from here or what to check. And advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
