I had confirmation that my HPFP was goin out by dealership along with my own diagnosing efforts. Ordered one from ebay from for 199 and got it installed next evening. When doing this work i went ahead and changed my valve cover and blocked off the left crank case vent line that goes down to the intake. I also deleted the sound generator and intake muffler that Beamerdude does on Youtube, and did oil change. SO!. that night I drove the car a bit and everything was rainbows and unicorn with no engine light. Next day I try to start it and does the same ol bad start and just about wont run. Using obd2 tester I showed random misfires and cat thresholds under limits. I thought it might be a vacuum leak I over looked or caused. I triple checked everything I could see and also check all sensors plugs I could find. After being unable to find anything wrong and still getting same results with engine, I kept smelling fuel under the hood and found that the thermal thing under the new/refurb. fuel pump was leaking fuel.
Question: is this something I am causing or did I receive a faulty pump? I have no idea what condition my in-tank fuel filter is in.
Is this the Osias pump that Bimmerdude recommends?
I hope not, as I just got mine last night and will be installing this weekend.
I will post what I get after my install.
Why did you block the CC vent?
Also, which CC vent did you block off, the one that faces the firewall/windshield or the one that connects to the intake/turbo boot?
If it is the intake/turbo you better unblock that.
If it is the one that faces the firewall/windshield, did you install an oil catch can at the same time?
If not, you should.
I installed a BSH oil catch can when I blocked my CC vent.
Make sure hard fuel line, that goes from pump to fuel rail, is tightly screwed into HPFP. I recently had my hpfp replaced, and had a small fuel leak from the hard fuel pressure line connected to HPFP. A 1/16 of a turn on nut stopped the leak.
yes an Osias pump but not from the YouTube link. That one is straight from them and 380$. I tried to save money and buy from 3rd party for 199$. Took a gamble and it hit me on the butt. I did receive a refund. I did passenger side breather block off with no catch can yet. Also my leak was not from the hard fuel line as you can tell from the picture. Also I got specs and properly torqued it down. I’ll be ordering the one from the link for 380 as soon as I’m able. It has all good reviews and a couple ignorant ones
Update for you Menger_Mayhem.
I got the pump installed as well as replacing both the high pressure and low pressure fuel lines(recommended).
So far so good, no leaks detected and no gas smell.
Better start up and idle.
Also when doing this and replacing the pressure converter and installing a cabin noisemaker delete pipe, I emptied my catch can.
All I can say is, everyone needs a catch can, mostly water but who wants that stuff going through the engine. No light With LED light behind
