While troubleshooting my p00012 (Vanos) issue I decided to replace my Valve cover. The car has 170k miles on it and the valve cover was leaking pretty badly. I changed the plugs, one was definitely fouled and replaced the cover. I'm waiting on new colis. I also started to work on replacing the Vanos Solenoid but decided to tackle that tomorrow. I had loosend the clamps on the charge pipes and disconnected one of them to get to the Vanos. I'm just curious, if the charge pipes aren't reconnected tighglty could that cause the car not to start? After replacing the cover the car started right up. I let it idle for a few minutes or so and checked for oil leaks from the cover. I backed it out of the garage and the car died. Now I can't get the car started again. Could just be something loose since I didn't really tighten the charge pipes up very well since I'll be taking them off tomorrow again. Any chance that would cause it not to start? I
In order to positively identify the issue, the car needs to be completely buttoned up. Once everything in place and tight, you can then trouble shoot any issue. Maybe by then, the car starts just fine
Yes that's my plan today. On the positive side the valve cover job was quite easy Getting to the Vanos, not so much. Those charge pipes just don't want come off.
I got you...Usually I use a long flat head screw driver and lean it against the throttle body. then try to gently push on it after you loosen then clamp
So i looked under the hood an noticed that my ground
wire for the coils is broken. I must have done that removing it to replace the cover. The car did start when I first repalced the valve cover but as I backed out it died. It cranks and I can smell guess so not the fuel pump. Attached is a pic? Can the ground cause the car to not start? Is there anyway to repair the ground wire?
yes, this ground wire will prevent the car from starting, but it will still crank. you could either replace the clamp of the wire or just take it off and strip the wire then tie it around and under the 8mm nut.
