Communication error when trying to code

Well let’s start off by saying that I bought coding software and the cable, I have been trying to get the computer to talk to the programs and I am getting errors. I have been working with the person I got the software and cable from and he has told me that the voltage at pin 7 and 8 are to low. The voltage I am getting at pin 4&7 with ignition on is .74 and voltage between 4 & 8 is 8,67. I am being told that both these should be equal to the battery voltage???? If that is the case where should I start looking for an issue. I am getting 12 volts at pin 16 using pin 4 & 16.

I was able to read engine code before all of this trying to code, now I can’t connect to read codes. I find a few things to try like disconnecting the battery and putting the two terminals together to disapate residual power and check a few fuses. Anything else I should try? One other question would I be able to change the computer from my parts and and reprogram it with my JCW tune file?

Not sure, but isn't there something about needing to modify (jump??) pins 7&8 on the connector for coding on a 1st gen? There are a few references about it in this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...al-info-5.html

I think there are also some cables with a small jumper switch on the connector to make them compatible with 1st gens.

Yes you usually do but the cable I got has the switch that does that for you. I was having issues today with you code reader linking up but did a ecu reset and now it is connecting. But I would still like to know what pin 7 and 8 volts should be, after the reset pin 7 went up to .84v and pin 8 went up to 8.79v. I had been working with the guy I got my cable and programs from and he even sent me another cable to see if that was the issue then today I figured out my code reader wasn’t connecting, but I am at work and was wondering if anyone knew what those pins should read with the ignition on
