Help removing door handle

I need help removing the driver-side door handle on our 2002 MCS. I am trying to replace the original door handle with the new version that is more resistant to freezing temperatures. I have the actuator disconnected and removed from the door, and the bolt in the door jam and behind the flap on the inside of the door are removed. Yet I can't get the handle off. The rear end of the handle is free, but it feels like it is stuck on the lock cylinder. Does the lock cylinder come off with the handle or remain in place?
