Replacing Ignition Coil...Bosch Performance Ignition Coil?
Hey Yall,
I am doing a tune up and just going to replace the ignition coils. M7 Speed advertises a Bosch Performance Ignition Coil set of 4 for $189. Looking at the pictures they have one of the box (below) and have blacked out on purpose the Bosch part number? I am looking at other Bosch coils that range from $26 to $30 max a piece. Is there such a thing as a PERFORMANCE ignition coil by Bosch, or is the price just jacked up and there is only one coil Bosch produces for 2008 Clubman S?

Go with the original MINI ones. We have done a lot of testing and find the aftermarket coils to either fail quickly, or they don't put out as much voltage as the originals and you actually end up with a weaker spark. Audi guys have had this issue for years. So it's worth spending the extra to know you are getting a quality part and they have a 2yr warranty.

I also recommend using OEM coils. I was having some hesitation and what felt like misfires (no codes) with Bosch coils off of Amazon, and replacing them with OEM coils seems to have fixed it. I didn't start having trouble until I moved from FL to NM, so YMMV.
Someone in a thread somewhere else said you can order directly from Delphi and get the same coils as the MINI ones but without the MINI logo on them.

Are you comparing to ones off Amazon, or the High Performance set from Bosch? Looking at the high-performance ones myself, but if people aren't having success with them I can stick with OEM. My R56S has a few upgrades, but I haven't had to replace the coils/plugs since then.

From experience, I prefer to use the OEM coils. I bought a set of “performance “ upgrade coils for my ‘12 R60 and immediately had major misfire issues. Went back to the factory coils and it ran perfectly. Even with a stage 3 tune running 22 psi, my Mini runs best with OEM coils.
Mine came from the factory with Delphi coils, but I believe that they also used Bosch some production runs.
That may have been me mentioning buying them on Amazon. You want to make sure you get the correct ones. What I did was look them up on realOEM.com to get the correct part # and manufacturer. You can then get that same coil from Delphi or Bosch on Amazon for quite a bit less. The ones I ordered came right from Delphi, and are exactly the same as the ones I took off except that the MINI logo is absent. That logo is pricey. For $120, I had 4 new OEM coils on my doorstep in 2 days and saved a chunk of change to boot.

I replaced my original Delphis with $20 Bosch units (0221504800) from RockAuto.com and so far I'm happy with them and prefer that these ones are fully rubber coated, so no rusty looking coils after a while. Having said that, The Delphi coils are only $30 each so I could have gone with them but the rubber coating spoke to me after seeing my delphi's were rusty adn I live in the least humid place on earth, I swear.

Hi guys. Perhaps the ignition coil is indeed overrated. Most likely it is. I recommend checking everything before starting the car. I use a trusted site Chevy 6.6 Gas Performance Parts where I can find out the price and quality of all parts.
