Reverse gate - resistance adjustment?

Hi all,

One of the things I've noticed about my 08 Clubman is how easy it is to shift into reverse when you think you're going into first. I've driven manual transmissions for years, including German shift patterns like ours, but have never experienced anything like this. I've done it a couple time at stoplights already and am really worried about front-ending someone. For now I try to make a habit of dropping it down to 2nd and then up into first, but there have still been a couple missteps.

I've seen this issue mentioned on the site before, and occasionally someone will comment that the car should be taken to the dealer for adjustment. Is anyone out there aware of what adjustment can be made to stiffen up the resistance on the reverse gate? I like to work on my own cars and would prefer to avoid the dealer if possible.

Thanks for any advice.

Nick
