Changing spark plugs
Changing spark plugs
Hi,
2009 Base.
I have another car with aluminum heads and as the car got older I thought for sure I pulled out the threads one time. Since then I learned not to use anti-seize (or very little) and on that car at least I spray some penetrant into the holes before removing the plugs. I work them out with a back and forth motion because at least when I used the anti-seize there was lots of friction if I just pulled them out at one go.
I don't see that this is an issue with the mini but just want to make sure as I know many have turned a $200 repair into thousands because of stripped heads.
I got the NGK BKR6EQUP plugs and install using vacuum hose attached to the plug electrode. Torque 15-19 ft lbs. I don't see any gap info so I assume factory gap OK.
