Rough idle.

I have a 2011 R56s, and the car is idling rough and throwing the “Engine Malfunction” error code. Last month I took it and had replaced the oil filter stand gasket, oil cooler gasket, cat conv gasket, oil filter, oil stand gaskets, valve cover gasket, spark plugs, and the charcoal cabin filter. Yesterday, it started idling rough again and throwing the error code. Any suggestions on what could be causing this? The shop I got it repaired at said it might be the camshaft sensor, but the error code comes and goes. When the code does come on, it’s like there is not any power to the turbo.
Thanks,
Nicole

Check the Vanos solenoid, also control inlet camshaft timing, delicate contamination and cause idle disturbances. Located on the left side of the engine, near of timing chain tension, secured with an M6 bolt. Just pull out carefully, clean or replace.

Obtain obd codes to narrow down the issue. It shouldn't be a guessing game.

It’s almost impossible to know where to begin to look without the DTC’s (Diagnostic Trouble Codes). The limp-mode.... when the half yellow engine light that says engine malfunction / reduced power, can be triggered by any number of things, same goes for a rough idle. Your first step needs to be getting the codes read. AutoZone and the like will do it for free. The only problem with that is they can’t read all of the codes with their cheap scan tools. A lot of repair shops will do it for free as well, if you find one that works on BMW / MINI, they can read all of them. That’s where to begin, the codes will point you towards what to look at.
