Life expectancy of timing chain repair

I bought my MCS two weeks ago, a 2008 with JCW dealer installed package, 84k miles. Its got a rattle on start up but nothing thereafter. I am making plans to have the timing chain problem addressed. So assuming I constantly monitor oil levels and adhere to a rigid schedule for oil changes, how long can I expect this repair to last?

There is no set mileage... My 2007 MCS has 110K (original owner) and I am on my third timing chain as of last fall.... I serviced it well and changed the oil twice a year at about 4-5K. IMO... watch the oil and measure the chain stretch every year and replace when it is out of spec. Maybe the very latest chain, guides and tensioner are better!!

I had an 08 MCS several years back......drove it for about 70k miles as I recall. I was on my third timing chain by the time I traded it in.

On my 09 MCS with 95K miles I’m still on the original chain. I did change the tensioner to the latest, and longer, part at 60K to be safe. 5K oil changes since new.

Have you measured the chain for stretch?

No, I don't have the tool. I'm assuming, perhaps incorrectly, that I'd hear some cold start rattles if it was stretching as a warning.

My first chain, replaced by Mini Dealer, had the death rattle at about 30K. My second never developed the classic death rattle, but it was not 100% quiet either while running. I had Mini measure it when I had an oil change at about 97K and it was definitely out of spec...I replaced it myself last fall and I can tell the difference. IMO - do not wait for the death rattle as that is closer to failure. If you do not have the tool (does not cost too much) have Mini or a reputable shop measure for you - quick and easy and they probably will not even charge you. Good luck,
