Last night on my way home I'd did 2 hard pulls in the car, just having fun. After the second pull I could smell a sweet smell so I knew I had coolant leaking somewhere.
Pull in the driveway pop the hood and had coolant all over. It was late so I decided to deal with it in the morning. (Car never over heated) this morning I found that the temp sensor that's in the cast elbo before the thermostat housing popped out, not sure why but it did. so that is where my coolant leak was from. My question is, is there a elbo that doesn't have the hole for the temp sensor since my new thermostat housing I installed doesn't use that sensor anymore or do I just replace the whole section of hose?

 

minimize points of failure is the best approach. just but that section of hose and you're good to go.

 

What I think happened is when I had all the hoses pulled to the side while changing the thermostat housing. I think somehow the sensor became unclipped on one side and I didn't notice. I was able to put it back in and heard the audible "click" so I feel that its secure. Until I delete it all together I just filed a notch in the sensor and put a zip tie around it so it can't pop back out. Should work for now.

 

I just replaced the thermostat in my 2013 S . To do it I had to add a new harness adapter (part# 12518614952) for the new style plug ins and a new upper hose to do the job. The new hose takes that elbow out of the mix so you can't have a leak there again

 

Do you have a part number for that hose? When I spoke with the dealer they said they didn't have anything. I'm thinking the guy didn't know what I was talking about.
