R53 Won't Start the 1st Time

Hi all,

I've been having some issues with my R53 lately. When I crank it up after having it sit overnight it sounds like its starting, I let go of the key and then it splutters and dies. I move the key all the way back and do it again and it starts like nothing is wrong. Any idea what this could be? I haven't noticed anything else that could point to a bad fuel filter...could it be spark?

I have the 15% reduction pulley, lightweight pulley and JCW Airbox and I remember installing colder plugs when I did the reduction and this had to have been at least 30k miles ago. I was thinking of replacing the spark plugs first to see if it helped.

Thanks!

I just had this happen on my 2006 MCS and it was caused by bad gas. I didn't trouble shoot it, I just found out by chance. After living with this issue for a while, it was time for a fill up and after that the problem went away and has not come back. Once I determined the problem was gone I threw in some injector cleaner just to be safe. Strange thing is I always buy gas from the same place and haven't had a problem like that before.

Interesting, I have been gasing up at the same place. I'll change it up to see if that's it.

Try turning the ignition on for a second or two to let the fuel pump work - you'll hear it.
Then start it.
See if that makes any difference.

Mine does the same thing if I just jump in and turn the key. So my routine is get in and turn key on then put on my seatbelt then turn the key to start and it fires right up.
