Headlight washers ?

Ok, I'm at a loss at how to get the headlight washers to spray. The manual just says they will operate at "appropriate intervals" while the headlights are on. Anyone use their washers enough to explain how they work? Got them to spray once, but after yanking on the washer lever a bunch of times, getting a well washed windshield, the headlight washers didn't operate again.
Thanks !

I believe it's every 3rd spray of water, the headlight washers spray. I've got them, but never pay attention to them.

I believe there is a built-in delay between the time the windscreen washers activate and the headlamp washers activate. This is to allow only the windscreen to be wetted in mildly dirty conditions. And, as you know, you can go thru a 0.5 litre of washer fluid very quickly!

Try activiating the windscreen washers and keep holding them on for about three seconds or so. You should see the headlamp washers activate.

Turn on your headlights, then hit the windshield washer... They only work when the headlights are on.

Try snapping a picture of them when they appear.

I never have seen my "Robots" in the 16,000 miles I've motored. Do you have to have wiper fluid filled for it to work?

I wonder what other "Robots" there are in my MINI?
Park distance control robots
speed sensing auto volume control HK robots
Cruise control robots
Auto AC robots
ECU robots?
They are taking over my MINI!

If I can get someone to come over and snap the pic while I hold the wiper lever... I'll do it

If you want to see them, you can pop the hood and push them out from behind. It's a little tricky to find the right place to push, but they slide in and out easily.

Too funny hune. No one has seen them because they only come out after dark!

The first time you hit the washers while your lights are on, the xenon washers will also work. After that you have to wait a set number of washes OR turn your lights off and on again.

There WAS a video on old MCO site.

I would think it is out there somewhere, Mark may even have it still.

Thanks for all the feedback! I asked my MINI service advisor, and he had to make a call to get more info. He tells me that the ignition key must be turned on/off 3 times before the headlight washers will work a second time. The info on time interval sounds reasonable too. I will have to try again. Seems too complicated. Our other car (Toyota) will spray the headlights with a double pull of the control stalk lever, anytime. Oh well, still lots of fun motoring around regardless!

The headlight washers work when the headlighs are on and the first time you operate the windshield washers. There is a little delay, I think after I release the washer it operates. I have seen them work many times in my two months of motoring. Cool to see the spray coming over the top of the fenders when at speed.

They appear to work only the first time I use the wipers on a drive, I think the earlier post about three ignition cycles is about right. I will have to count, but it does't work every time I operate the windshield washers.

I've seen it work one time the 14k+ miles I have on the car. I decided I
had to see it, so before washing the car I turned on the headlights and
washer..then stepped out to watch the arms at work. Pretty cool stuff.
