Help. P1688 and puking coolant!
Hello everyone .Crappy 1st post. I have an 06 Cooper S with 97k on it. I bought it 3 weeks ago .Today it went into limp mode, threw a P1688 code and puked its coolant tank dry.
Ive been reading about either the BPV or the crank pulley being the issue .I'm thinking the crank pulley may be my problem but none of the other threads mention loosing coolant along with this issue. I guess its possible if the water pump wasnt spinning and it overheated. My water temp gauge never moved though. Did I wreck my car? Any other likely culprits? Any way to test the pulley or BPV?
Thanks in advance everyone.

If the supercharger was not spinning from a bad crank pulley then yes the car would overheat as the SC spins the waterpump. On the crank pulley, is there rubber residue on the engine plate? Can you push the pulley in so that is contacts the motor? I would also check to see if you have coolant leaking from the water pump as that could be another issue.
On the over heating, my friend lost his belt so the ECU shut the car off before there was damage. The overflow tank did split from the pressure. Now could you overheating have warped the head? Once you get things back together keep an eye on the coolant level along with signs of chocolate milkshake in the oil. Either and you could have a warped head.

This may not be the same issue, but then again it might...

Even if your pulley 'looks' good it might not 'be' good.
