Hey,
I own a '07 S and recently encountered smoke coming from my turbo as well as my exhaust. On 11/14/17 I had an induction service and valve cover replacement so I can't possible see it being the valve cover. Reading up on the related threads tends to point me into thinking it is the turbo line. However, with a flashlight a failed to see any oil leaking from the line. Still, I didn't have the day light to take of the turbo shield to get a better look. At 103,500 miles I'd suppose the turbo is due for replacement but after replacing the timing chain alongside the other services I had I'm a bit down trodden with Zippy's health. If it is a turbo line leak then I should without a doubt see oil on the line tomorrow when I remove the shield? If not then I should have the turbo itself replaced?
Got this photo from another post on car gurus which is the exact spot my mini is producing smoke from as well.
Thanks for the input! You're absolutely right! I took a short trip around the block this morning which recreated the previous scenario perfectly. Once I opened the hood for inspection I found oil on the turbo line. Oddly enough though there was some smoke coming from the bottom of the line as well, without an inspection mirror I can't confirm it's source. Yet, I suspect it's just oil drip and burn. If anyone has the same problem in the future I suggest replacing the entire line/gaskets with the kit found at OutMotoring. Link below.
