hi everyone, trying to be short, 09 Clubman non-S. I accidentally left the coolant overflow tank cap lose at night. Drove it to work in the morning, coolant all boiled. Remember that and tighten the cap back at lunch and the shadow made it looks like the coolant was still there (stupid me). Then the engine shutdown as I merge into the slow and long exit line on my way home. Managed to push the car to the shoulder with a co-worker. Outside the car we smell burned liquid. Tolled the car to an mechanic shop, but its closed. Lucky there is an auto part shop right beside it. Coolant tank was empty then, so waited the car to cool then filled the tank and the car start up fine. Drove gently the short 2 miles home without trouble.
When arrived, coolant tank was empty again and engine was hot when arrived. No engine light nor any other warning light. Didn't see any leak on the driveway. But found this narrow relatively stiff hose hanging out and not connected on one end. The push cap end was connected to something under the ECM.
Have been trying to find it in the Bently Mini manual and all the engine diagram and engine bay diagrams online but haven't got a clue yet. Anyone know what the hose suppose to connect to?
Thanks,
Joseph
Where I found the cable after removing the big air box on the right of the air filter housing.
Finally took the part to the dealer and have it identified. It's a transmission venting pipe. And it's not suppose to connect to anything in one end. And the push cap end connects to the transmission.
Just in case if anyone looking for it in the future.
You mentioned replacing lost coolant; I wanted to pipe up here to say, please get the correct MINI (blue) coolant, and drain/flush/replace all the coolant in your car with the correct stuff.
I have a thread somewhere here dealing with the huge issues that resulted (months later) from having the wrong coolant mixed in my R56. Flush and replace!
