How much do you want to do with it? The real cheap ones will scan the code but not reset, the middle road will scan/reset and the high ends will help to point you in the correct direction.

High end one would probably be more cost efficient. Thanks...

Schwaben BMW/MINI scan tool
It's $200 but you can reset codes and it gives detailed error codes.

The problem with this unit is that it's limited to one car.

Yep, And it will tell you which side the ABS/wheel speed sensor is bad, which is helpful. You can also test most lights and functions.

I never tried to check these functions but, ECS Tuning would be able to answer this question.

I bought the Schwaben scanner from ECS a few years ago, works great for both my Mini's, reads and clears codes from every module where my Snap-on scanner can't.

The nice thing about the Schwaben scanner is it has lifetime updates, and I was able to download the program for the Chrysler vehicles as well for the wife's car.

The scanner takes a little bit of getting used to for all of it's features, for the price, I think it's worth it

I prefer this one:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Foxwell-NT5...72.m2749.l2649

It's an updated version of the Schwaben/NT510 tool with the same lifetime updates. I keep mine in the glovebox. Offer 135 and you should get it.

Used it on both of my BMW & Mini , to reset routine maintenance codes (oil, brakes & cabin filters) and saved hundreds that the dealership charges to clear codes. Checked ASC /DSC and scanned /re-calibrated steering angle sensor on the Mini after an alignment, which paid for itself the first time used.

It is but, the owner's manual needs to be more detailed and ECS Tuning says they are working on it...

Agreed....the manual leaves a lot to be desired....I made mention of that about 3 years ago when I bought mine.....nothing ever came of it.....having worked with multiple brands of scanners over the years or working in the automotive field......I finally figured out a few things about the scanner that were never mentioned in the manual, but a "user friendly" manual needs to be printed for first time users and distributed with the scanner
