did Gen 1 have "welcome lights"

Surfing inside on a rainy day I came across these projector "welcome lights".

https://www.outmotoring.com/mini-win...light-set.html

My Jag has "puddle lights" on the underside of the doors and in the side mirrors, but I didn't know about welcome lights on Minis.

I felt under the doors of my Mini and can feel two round plastic plugs in the underside of each door. Are these where "welcome lights" would go? If so, were they standard or an option? And if so, should there be wiring for "welcome lights" lights where these plugs are now?

My Mini does have the once-lighted sill plates (plates still there but don't light up) so I also wonder if there is clearance for "welcome lights" and if they might have been removed for these sill plates.

2005+ Gen 1 had puddle lights under the doors. The Outmotoring product is a direct replacement for the existing plain lens. 2002-2004 did not have puddle lights.

Hmmm. Guess I was confused by the fitment list.

This MINI Welcome Light Set is one of the many MINI Cooper Parts and Accessories that we carry and will fit the following MINI Cooper Models and Years:
Gen1 MINI:
R50 MINI Cooper Hatchback: 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006
R52 MINI Cooper Convertible: 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
R52-S MINI Cooper S Convertible: 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
R53-S MINI Cooper S Hatchback: 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006

So...I won't have any wiring for these in my early 2004 doors? Too Bad - I think the JCW ones are pretty cool. Even the Chinese knock-off versions. Or are they all Chinese?

Their fitment list is wrong.

The 2005 refresh updated the interior trim including the door panels, and added lights on the bottom (items 13 and 14 here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_5653).
The older panel is here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_4983.
Note the dates in the From and Up To columns.

Thanks, so the change came in July of 2004. Wonder how hard it would be to add them to a pre-July 04.

I was surprised that the door lights are not shown as going into the bottom of the doors and are called interior lights. I was also surprised that the speaker grills are different from left door to right and are $56 !?! Seems a lot for a speaker grill but must be a money maker as they are vulnerable to being kicked with a toe if the door is not fully open when getting out and in.
