Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S(R56), and Cabrio (R57).
Check with the forum vendors to see if they have that tool.
Is this for pressing in a seal? Check the HowTo forum, I think that some clever folks have figured out a substitute method. You could also go through your socket set to see if you have something that will work.
In the bentley manual it says remove inner ball joint mounting nut. Screw mini special tool 31 1 040 to ball joint shaft, which is press-fit into subframe bore. Strike tool from below (arrow) to release ball joint from sub frame.
I don't know any tech or anyone that has ever bothered or even tried to just remove that ball joint.
If we had that ball joint bad we would just replace the control arm. We have the aftermarket version for $99.95 we use in our shop. The labor time to swap the ball joint would make it not cost effective. https://www.waymotorworks.com/front-...8-r59-aft.html
I have the new control arm already in order to replace it I need to get that bolt out of the subframe. The only way to replace it is to remove it from its attached point. Trust me if i didnt have to do it I wouldnt be struggle on it nwo.
Ive been trying to do that and the issue i think im having is the car is too low on jackstands and Im 6'5 270 so kinda big underneath it. Im looking into buying a quickjack now so i can get it higher hopefully. I keep telling my daughter i hope she remembers what we went through putting this together for her when shes driving it
Oh now I remember seeing that in the bentley manual. You only need the special tool if you're trying to save the threads. You could try putting a bottle jack under the bolt and pushing it up. Or raise the car a bit higher, put a jackstand under the bolt, and then lower the car back down to have the same effect.
Gonna try that in the morning. That makes a lot of sense.

I keep telling my kids when I was a child intelligence was essentially based on access to information and with the advent of the internet the definition had to be changed somewhat as everyone now has access to unlimited info. Now it’s knowing the right question to ask so you can get the correct information you need. Finally got it out thx swuawskibum ive seen bottlejacks before but never understood what they were meant for. Wow that was an adventure.
