Dashboard lights and DSC/check engine question

Hi all,

I did some searches but couldn't find my exact symptoms (sorry if it's out there on the forum...couldn't find it) on my '06 R53.

Started it up today as usual. None of the cluster lights came on nor were the gauges working. All of the normal switches were working (Lights, indicators, fog lights, windows, etc), but nothing on the speedo/tach/oil pressure/oil temp.

After searching a bit on NAM, I found the correct fuse (not blown)- reseated it and did an ECU reset (tried the reset first, but without the instrument cluster working, I couldn't get into the menu).

After reseating the fuse, the clusters all came up. I was able to reset the ECU and almost everything seems to be working. The only thing now is my DSC light, engine light and low pressure lights are on and I can't get them to turn off. I tried to reseat the DSC fuse (also not blown) but it did nothing.

Questions: Any idea why the cluster would just stop working?

Any idea of the engine/dsc lights and are they tied to the cluster dying?

I found on NAM something about a misfire would trip those lights, but seems odd that it happened after I reset the cluster fuse (F21) and reset the ECU.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks all!

Which light is on, the CEL or the EML? Suggest you take the car to an Auto Parts type store, they usually will read the OSB2 codes for free. A dealer will charge you. With long distance diagnosing, the more you provide the better chance we have of throwing a dart in the right place.

It is the "Check Engine Light", Tire Pressure and the light that comes on when you turn off DSC (traction control). So the weird part is all of the error lights turned off about 10 minutes into my drive (maybe a bit less, that's when I noticed it). The 33 mile drive home was fine and all looks OK. Maybe it just needed a reset, but in my experience with cars and machines, I fear I may have reset it but not fixed anything if that makes sense...

Maybe the reboot will fix it...just seems strange.

If the CEL is on, chances are a reset will not erase the code, need a special OBD2 scanner tool that. That could also be a wheel speed sensor as the tire inflation system measures the speed of the tire to gauge the pressure.

Check your wheel speed sensors in the wheel wells for frayed wiring or bad connection.

Check engine + tire pressure + DSC off is called the error light "trifecta" around these parts because of how often it happens.
