I found a used engine with 74k on it, a shop near me will install it for 1300 with a 3 year 36k mile warranty. Another mechanic I have used before said 750 with a 1 year warranty.

That is a heck of deal. I paid $1500 just for a good low miles motor. I had to install it myself.

Where is the best place to get a used engine? Im a bit skeptical of buying one from ebay since ive never done it before. Are there any places you guys have personally purchased one from? Ive searched the local places around southern california and havent had much luck with lower miles.
Thank you.

Ontario. Ontario Oregon, Ontario Canada, or Ontario the ex-Mexico?

I will not buy a used engine without some adequate proof of mileage first hand. It may be just me. It is like buying illicit drugs, I don't expect the cocaine I buy on the main street is really not Fentanyl.

DEA: before you bust down my door, I never use drugs. I don't even use the prescription opioid my good doc prescribed me.

I pulled the block from my 05 R53 with 168k because it had spun a bearing in number 2. Bought all the parts and paid $750 to have it rebuilt. Re-installed, now it's knocking again. So either faulty rebuild or bad oil pump. Any update on what you did with yours? used engine vs rebuild?
