shake rattle and roll

hoping someone else has had this issue, when the temps drop my R53 rear end sounds like it is going to rattle off. The Megan coil overs are suspect but it is getting to the point where people on the street can here it popping and rattling. Haven't had a shop yet locate the problem. Feels like rear end is loose. Thanks

Have you checked the suspension including the end links?

Let me know what you find, I've removed my struts twice trying to figure out what is causing this issue. New struts about 9 months ago, checked all the bushing which seem to all be in good order..

This weekend I replaced rear sway bar end links and added power flex trailing arm inserts. Had no effect on rattle and pop. will do lower rear control arms next. Also replaced lower front ball joints. If you have 80000plus miles as I do you may want to replace yours. They were very worn, front feels better.

I also have Megans and they make the "rattle." I tend to think of it is more of a clunk. I will try to get a video up loaded soon. I have a few but I am at work and typing this is about all I can do from here. On the video, the clunk sounds a bit like someone is gently tapping on an open mic, but the sound I reality it a bit more like a metallic clunk.

Could it be the spring spinning around? Is there a way to add a plate to them to quieten them down? I know some coilovers have plastic sheets to let the spring twist a bit.

How do you guys like the Megan otherwise? Im about to put a set of EU on when the weather turns.

My noise started when temps dropped below 60 degrees. Each year it gets worse. If the Megans are the culprit it is a waste of money to buy them. The racket Im getting ruins the driving experience. I would like to hear from other Megan coil over owners regarding this issue. Im still going to make suspension upgrades but so far I've managed to tighten up the suspension and intensify the rattle and pop.

The spring bind is more of a bong sound. That doesn't bother me at all because you know... racecar. It can be cured with a little grease on the spring perches, again, something that I just haven't done. The clunk is a concern though. The lower pillow ball bearing may be the issue. I haven't had the time to pull the coil over off to really see. Otherwise, I have really enjoyed the Megan's for the last 5 years. They have been, until now, essentially trouble free. The first month I had them, the same front left corner made the same sound but that was my fault to make sure that all nuts were tightened. I have tightened it down and now it only makes the noise on either harsh abrupt bumps or very very light undulations in the road.

My noise has always come from the rear suspension both sides. Installed coil overs about 10000 miles ago in late summer. When winter hit the rattle began. I had coil overs checked for tightness and they were. Friday will try and replace lower control arms. Thanks for the input

Okay, I pulled passenger side rear coil over to lubricate it .Didn't have a vice so couldn't loosen top nut. I did spray a lubricant on all mating surfaces. Reinstalled and had a real reduction in rattle noise. Ordered a vice a will get grease. What are the pitfalls ahead of me? Thanks for all the support.

rattle back on steroids. Put car on stands pulled wheels reached in and grabbed sway bar. Gave a pull and it slid in bushing about a quarter inch in travel. Should this happen?

You are not clear if 1/4" travel is vertical or horizontal. If vertical it is at least one source of your misery. Horizontal travel is not good either, and that is why I chose a sway bar with built in lateral stops.

You should not be able to move the sway bar with your hand in any form or fashion in a healthy bar, bushing, and end links; even with the stock toy bar.

got the car on stands and found left rear end link had loosened up. thought it was torqued down pretty good. The sway bar movement was horizontal, found one of the clamps that i was able to crank down on a little. It is a H&R swaybar 19mm. The right end link was pretty tight but was able to snug it up a little. Checked everything else I had installed for tightness, seemed good. Got the car down and within a matter of feet a could still here a rattle. Concentrated more in the right rear. I'll keep looking. Thanks to all the responders.
