Happy New year.

Thank you all for contributing to a very useful forum! However, I've been reading this and other various forums but i'm still stuck with a starting issue.

I own a 2003 MINI Cooper S (R53, Jan 2003 reg, but I guess produced sometime in 2002). It has been very reliable but the other day it refused to start.

The breakdown recovery man tested battery, spark plugs, then found there was no fuel going to the plugs. After testing the injector, he moved on to the fuel pump relay which was fine.

However, at the other end of the plug at the fuel pump, there was no voltage. He suggested there might be a fuel cut off or inertia switch but after almost an hour of looking and Googling, we couldn't find anything.

So i'm wondering, is there anything else that I could've missed? Could be an ECU issue, or a bad earth somewhere? Or perhaps a fuel cut off switch that sits elsewhere?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've spent several hours looking on sites and forums but was unable to find anything.

Memners on other forums suggested the fuel cut off switch but I could not locate it - i've looked everywhere and followed several suggestions from previous posts, but with no luck..

Going to move you to the Stock Problems/Issues area. I believe the engine immoblizer switch (inside by the fuse box) may be involved. You can also view the electrical schematics via a link at the below thread, Item # 0015

And even though we know you have your steering wheel on the "right" side, it is still wrong . . . .

 

Early gen 1 R53 has an inertial cutoff switch in case of a crash, so no burn. This thread might help but is on mini2 forum and I think NAM forum engine will kill the link. Just google for "inertial switch fuel pump cut-off problem".

Thank you for the warm welcome and suggestions.

After little luck and decided to bite the bullet and take it to a garage, who ran their diagnostics.

In the end, it was a faulty fuel pump. Not sure why it wasn't receiving voltage but will try to add more detail once I get the car back.
