Hi guys, i've had my 2011 R56 for nearly two years now. Last week the alternator failed and I replaced the part myself with an 120 amp Autozone re-manufactured part.

The alternator was charging the battery to 14 volts immediately after replacement and worked for several days until failing again. The battery is reading 12V or less while running.

I brought the car in to my local mini dealer and had them run a diagnostic on it, and they are certain the alternator is the problem. They say that the computer is unable to recognize the signal from the new alternator and is the reason for the lack of voltage at the battery. I've never experienced this type of issue, so I'm checking in to see if this really can be an issue.

Would anyone here be able to say if this http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo....01047&jsn=1598 alternator will be a direct replacement part, and likely solve my current issue.

 

We've seen this many times with the reman or aftermarket alternators. The OEM ones cost more but is worth not doing the job twice. We've also seen where they would overcharge the battery.
