Supercharge smell
it recently hit 120k the other day. And could that be the reason to the smell?
Yep, that is probably what you are smelling. On the R53 the Supercharges does not "kick in", it is always being driven off the crank, so is always spinning. The only thing that changes is the RPM. You will hear the S/C whine at the higher RPM. Check the belt and tensioner, one or both may need to be replaced. At that mileage, If it hasn't been done yet I would highly recommend servicing the S/C and changing the oil.
If you've not replaced the crank pulley yet I would inspect it for failure, when they fail you'll get a burning rubber smell, which is usually accompanied by a SES light, battery light, low power, etc., but you could also have an oil leak that when the engine is warmed up is giving you an odor, my car had a small oil leak that was just enough to make the filter housing tacky and when I drove hard I would get the smell of burning oil in the cab.
I would assume if you had a fault with the SC that caused a smell that you would also have an apparently horrid noise coming from the SC as well.
