2008 R56 Throwing Codes P2187, P2195, & P2097
I have a 2008 Mini Cooper automatic base model hatchback (no S or turbo), with 108k miles on it. Recently the engine started to stutter while accelerating, most likely misfiring and some vibrations on the dashboard, more than usual. At some points I can smell it running too rich. The check engine light turned on and I went and got it scanned and it showed codes P2187, P2195, and P2097. Spark plugs were redone last week, oil change a month ago. It has been in no accidents, no other major problems- just getting old. I'm am leaning towards a new O2 sensor for Bank 1- Sensor one. Anyone have any other thoughts or ideas what it could be?
Codes:
P2187: System too lean at idle Bank 1
P2195: Oxygen Sensor Signal Biased/ Stuck Lean Bank 1 Sensor 1
P2097: Post catalyst fuel trim system too rich Bank 1

You're lean pre and post cat, so I would rule out a pre cat O2 sensor and more so look at the possibility of a vacuum leak, timing issue, VANOS solenoid fault. But if you've got misfire issues there is more to the story.
You can and will get oxygen sensor faults when there is other problems present, like misfires. I would record the codes you've got now, clear the codes and read what comes back and diagnose from there.

I actually changed the spark plus last week when these codes first came up, and reset them. All three codes came back about two days later.
