Need advice re: state emissions inspection
Help! Here is my problem. My 2004 MCS w/ 150K has been off the road for over a year, with battery disconnected, while I attended (slowly) to some minor repairs and deferred maintenance. Finally got everything done, but in the interim the state (Virginia) registration had expired and can not be renewed without a current emissions inspection. The DMV gave me a 3-day waiver within which to get that done. Went to my usual inspector who after I told him the battery had been disconnected advised that he would be unable to perform the test until I had driven some considerable distance (he could not say how far but thinks hundreds of miles) before the car's emission memory would be 'ready.' This is a problem because the DMV waiver is very restrictive - it only permits me to drive from home to the inspector and back.
I have a generic OBDII code reader, and a Peake code reader/reset tool unique to the MINI. Can either tell me when my emissions memory is 'ready?'
Please help! TIA.
