2005 Mini Cooper Starting issue.

Hello,

MY cooper just developed a starting issue. When you turn the key it starts to crack but then immediately shuts down... Sometimes it takes like 5-10 tries to get it going... other days it start right away with no issues at all. I search everywhere and found this video on YouTube of someone having exactly same problem. They apparently changed battery to fix it. I went and got my battery tested and it PASSED... but issue is still there. I wonder if anyone ever encountered same issue?
here is the youtube video.... video is not mine but exactly same problem!

Thank You.

Going to move you to the Stock Problems/Issues area.

It could be the solenoid on the starter.

Well, it's cranking, and firing, then dying. Starter seems operational to me. On the other hand, if the battery is dead, it would *click*, then nothing. Or turn over once or twice, and then die. I think it's something else.

Check your plugs and coil pack terminals first. There should be no rust on the coil pack terminals with the boots pulled off. If there is, grab a soft metal brush and carefully scrub the rusty crap off. If your plugs haven't been replaced in a while, it never hurts to get new ones. Wires too. Ireland Engineering makes a great cheap set of wires. Best plugs are NGK BKR6EQUP for stock s/c pulley cars, and BKR7EQUP for JCW/reduced pulley cars.

If the plugs, wires, and coil are in ok condition, I think this resembles a dirty fuel filter. Did it get worse in the cold/mornings? If so, I'd probably replace the fuel filter, especially if the car has more than 100k. Once you get the back seats out and find a nice DIY/instructional video for a fuel pump replacement online, shouldn't be more than $50 for the part and an hour's work. Good luck!

Also, be nice to your engine! Turn the key into position 2 until you hear the fuel pump behind you prime all the way (low frequency HNNNNNRRRRG noise), and then turn the key!

How many miles? Could be a fuel filter issue

car has 277,000 km fuel filter was replaced, but very-very long time ago... ill start there I guess, but once it starts it runs like a champ. I don't think its a fuel issue other wise id be stalling or car would be running rough or loss of power...
I will inspect the coils and plugs tonight. I hope its not the starter dying in some weird way... thank you for the suggestion's!!!

my baby....

Solved!!!

Just wanted to post that issue was solved encase someone encounters this... Started was the cause and was replaced. Apparently the noise that you hear in that video is shaft spinning but not catching some wheel inside... my mechanic was explaining. replaced started and haven't had that issue in couple month now.
