Hello from Germany, R53 issues

Hi guys, I’ve been snooping around here for quite a while now but never really wrote anything as there have been no major issues with my 2005 r53 JCW. Now that I am faced with some weird issues, I could really use some advice. I will try to elaborate in details as to what’s going on with my r53.

I was driving around with low on fuel, got lost and by the time I reached a gas station the computer showed I had only around 25km of range left. As I pulled into the gas station and turned the ignition off and took the key out the engine wouldn’t shut off. I had to stall it to kill it, with the engine off and key out of the ignition the brake light and some lights on the dashboard stayed lit.

After I refueled, I tried to start the car. The engine would turn over but wouldn’t start. All while the brake and dash lights stayed lit.

So I disconnected and reconnected the battery and then tried starting. Now the car would start but it sounded like it was either running on 2 cylinders or not getting enough fuel. So I tried shutting the car off and again the she wouldn’t shut off and like before the brake and dash lights stayed lit. So I had to stall it to kill it.

I should mention, before this, the car was running like a champ with no issues whatsoever and also showed no signs of any kinda hesitation while starting or otherwise. I haven’t noticed any water leakage and the battery shows 12.6v. Currently sitting on 155,000kms. 17% pulley, Setrab oil cooler, vented hood (which dissipates heat really well from the 17% pulley). I also have aftermarket oil press & temp gauges(oil & water). Prior to this all readings were well within tolerance. Never overheated or ran low on oil. This was the first time I let it run so low on fuel. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Going to move you to the Gen1 Stock Problems/Issues area. Any codes? Fuel filter ever changed?

Oh man, those extra CRs and LFs. Must have typed on Outlook mail then copied and pasted.

You recount of the event suggests the possibility of the Benzine (since you are in Deutschland) pump damage. MINI warns specifically never to let the fuel go too low as the pump motor relies on the Benzine to to lubricate the bearings. The only inconsistency is the motor didn't want to turn off, but that could be the ECU doing strange thing when fuel pressure goes crazy.

I suggest you look into the possibility of the damaged fuel pump, due to the specific event.
