R56 2007 shifter trouble

Hi, my r56 manual shifter have a hard time to go from side to side and now it start to miss is gear when shiffting in second or forth gear. When this happen , I just tap on the side of the shifter and it engage the gear. The shifter start to get hard to operate from a long storage . Easy to go up and down but hard from side to side. What I belive is that the shifter itself is became loose. What else can it be and is this something that happen often on the mini?

you can check the cable where it mounts in the transmission. There might be something on the way. Or because of storage, the cable is corroding!
