Hi, everyone!
I have 2007 MINI Hatch ONE (1.4 / MT) with P0014 and P0015 annoying the life out of me. I know I am not the one around here trying to solve this. I already replaced chain, tentioner and both solenoids. Now I am going to move to spark plugs and camshaft sensors, however in the meanwhile I am trying to understand a bit deeper what those codes are actually standing for. Both of them are for Exhaust camshaft and for Bank1 cylinders.
I surfed through the web but couldn't find the straight forward answer on which cylinders are BANK1.
1) Some sources say that BANK1 are the cylinders on the side where the #1 is located, so according to this logic BANK1 = #1 + #2
2) Some sources say that BANK1 are the line of cylinders that is parallel to crankshaft and "contains" #1 in it, so according to this logic BANK1 = #1 + #4 (if I understand lines appropriately)
3) Some sources say that BANK1 are the first two cylinders in firing order 1-3-4-2, so according to this logic BANK1 = #1 + #3
So, to be honest I am confused, and I would truly appreciate some expert assistance.
You said Both of them are for Exhaust camshaft and for Bank1 cylinders.
P codes are defined by the OBDII spec. If you read the specs you'll realize BANK1 & 2 refer to engines where an inline 4-cylinder like the Mini has just 1 BANK. V8's & V6's will have 2 BANKs. Subaru ? Dunno, 2 BANKs of 2 cyls each ?
Note that there are plenty of OBDII codes that are reserved for the manufacturer and so you may not always be able to find them on the 'Net.
And cornjuice is correct - inline 4 cyls move pairs in unison 1+4 up while 2+2 move down. Should be easy enough to find a pic of a 4 cyl crankshaft on the 'Net.

A little follow up on my major issue. Yesterday, I decided to double check the wiring and found out that the exhaust solenoid connector was pretty warn out (no idea how I missed it when I was installing a new solenoid). It actually fell apart when I connected it back in. As the result the error codes switched from p0014 and p0015 to p0013 and p0014. I picked up the new connector and installed it tonight. Let’s see..
