Part to fix speaker rattle

I've finally given up on trying different methods to fix the speaker rattle and don't see any free time to make it to the dealership twice to fix it. I say twice because most likely they'll need to order parts as they always do. Has anyone had their speaker rattle fixed by the dealer and if so, do you remember what part and part number was used? This is the same rattle on the passenger side front that if you barely touch the speaker grill, the rattle stops.

I figure if it's cheaper than two tanks of gas and two vacation days, I can do it myself.

Dynamat? I haven't kept up with this particular problem, but I should since I have been noticing it as well.

I've not tried Dynamat but have tried the roofing stuff discussed last year which is similiar to Dynamat at a lower cost. It seems to be the actual grill where the tabs are melted to hold it to the door panel. I've tried heating the tabs up just enough to spread the holding points and that seemed to work the longest amount to time. Just recently it has come back worse than ever now after a few months of silence.

rattle

You know, mine does the same thing. I'm assuming we all have the HK stereo system? Even still - I actually saw a very simple fix for this on line somewhere and I'll see if I didn't happen to book mark it. If not, it required taking your door apart and putting felt around the speaker and those parts of the speaker area that meet the door (not over the actual speaker of course). Let me see if I can find the link.. it had photos and everything! I thought it was here on this site that I saw it, but I could be wrong. But yeah I was pretty impressed that all it took was some self-installed felt.

No H/K but probably the same fix. Thanks for the link. I'll give that a try and scream like a baby if that doesn't work.

Using the felt is too much work!
I just cut up a piece of corrugated cardboard box and stuck it into where the felt goes. You don't even have to take the door panel off to do it! Try it, it worked for me.

My h/k rattle isn't just the door card, but the driver itself! I'm only on my 2nd driver, however both had improperly molded baskets (not to mention horribly CHEAP material), leading to voice coil rubbing on the magnet return structure. Since the monkeys are Motor City MINI won't help me, it'll have to wait 'til next time I'm in Cincinnati.

I had the speaker rattle, except the whole door panel was rattling, not just the speaker. I inserted a business card between the plastic door trim and the metal of the door and the rattle is gone. If I ever need to take the door apart for anything else, I will install a more permanent solution, but for now one business card and about 30 seconds of labor has done the trick!

Here's a very detailed thread over at MINI2 http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...ghlight=goMINI

Note that the Aug issue of goMINI magazine has specific part #s for the clips...I'll try to remember to look 'em up.

I had it and the dealer replaced the speaker. The rattle is dimished quite a bit but still pops up every now and then. (actually, listening to male voices on talk radio seesms to be the easiest and most reliable way to make it happen) Probably the R&R helped tighten things up a little or maybe the speaker was bad and now all I hear is the looseness. Maybe now I will try the felt or cardboard.

i don't have the HK stereo and this still happens. Nothing more annoying that that buzz. Taken it twice to the dealer, they thought they had it fixed but it ALWAYS comes back.

The first and easiest check is when it is rattling, press in on the door near the speaker and see if that stops it. If it does, then it is the door panel rattling problem that many of us, most with HK, have experienced...Jamming in some cardboard should fix it (till it falls out) and of course my felt page details the felt solution.

I still haven't gotten around to adding dynamat to improve sound quality, but since the felt, the vibration has never returned.

Oh yeah: Check to make sure nothing's in your door pockets. I thought it came back the other day then realized something was in there rattling around
