Cluster Issues

2005 mini cooper s with chrono package ,has issues with the tach and speedo display . if I installed a used unit does it need to be reprogrammed ? is the mieage stored in the cluster or Bcm??

Your old speedo may need to be "divorced" from your car and the new one may need to be "married" to it. That was true for the traction control/anti-lock brake/cruise control module in my Saab, and it was the main reason that I looked to have my unit rebuilt instead. I don't know if Minis are the same way, and given the silence on your question, I don't know if others here know either.

You might want to ask BMW/Mini specialists. Please let us know what you find out.

I am thinking the speedo/tach are coded to the ECU and if you change, the replaced units would have to be recoded to the ECU.
