Was driving and the clutch pedal slowly stop working

Hey guys, i took the car I just picked up and have been driving relentlessly all weekend... Was the guys daily driver so i didn't expect this... Slowly i noticed some times the clutch pedal didn't spring back into place. Odd, so i turned around from home and stopped romping on it. I didn't even get home. I checked all over the new after i hobbled over to autozone to get some super dot 4. What i read was the hydraulic clutch uses the brake fluid and it was at the min levels. Topped it off and still nothing. I basically had to start the car in 1st and use my rpm's to shift gently into each gear till i got it home...

What happened? Clutch slave or Master cylinder?
Is this something I can do at home? Im decent with cars. Did all the repairs on my Audi.

Ugh in Socal

Watching some youtube videos on clutch stuff... The guy mentioned that the tube for the clutch is higher then the break pickup and if the fluid is on the minimum or below it can and will pick up air and mess up the clutch until its bleed again. Any truth in this? Could it be that the slave and master could still be good i just need to bleed and perhaps even flush it while im doing this?

Yes you could have air in the system, and would need to be bled. SXS is signs and symptoms.

The issue was in fact a cracked slave cylinder. Replaced and bled and it works perfect again!
Thanks for all the help!
