Gushing out coolant near the Thermostat

Friends,

My 2009 Mini cooper Clubman coolant is like gushing out near the thermostat housing. I am hoping it's just the housing.

I put a small video - any help would be appreciated.

Video not working, I just did mine two weeks ago, not horrible, I would suggest replacing the plastic pipe that connects to the water-pump while your at it. That's where my leak ended up being.

Found the problem

The Thermostat housing was cracked and melted - poorly designed and location.

You could look into getting a metal housing, I'm sure you don't want to wait around for parts but I bet there is one out there. I know they have them for Gen 1.

Figure since it happened once it might happen again, design flaws.

It's a horrid part and so overly complex for no reason.

Unfortunately, I have not found a metal replacement part. If you do find one, please let me know.

It is all of that. I wouldn't mind a metal one as well, but suspect one will not be made because of the complex design. The plastic tube connecting the pump and thermostat gets brittle too. It would be nice if that came in aluminum as well.

No metal one as of yet. It's so complex and so touchy with the electronic thermo, most likely it will be years till it comes out, if ever.

I replaced mine with the newest part number and it outlasted the old design in mileage. While you are in there, i did my switch to the metal water pump, new water pipe, and did expansion tank also. Then flushed the system and its been good ever since.
