Are you moving it all the way to the right and left, because the lock does not get used itself they tend to stick. Spray some lubricant in there and try the key all the way to the left and right again. Its need to go all the way 90 degrees to each side.

Thank you for your reply; yes, the key turns fully to 90 degrees in both directions. It turns easily with little resistance and nothing happens with regard to the lock mechanism.

Yes its linked above in the door lock thread. It works with the key system, look behind the door card/ liner when you move the key and see if that arm is attached and moving. Is so it might just be the lock.
