CVT fill/level check assistance please

Hello I'm working on a 03' that doesn't have the spigot in the transmission pan to check the fill level. I do see another plug located on the lower front side that appears to look like it would serve that purpose. I did pull it and nothing went clunk inside the trans so things are looking up. I will try to post some photos.

Are you just wanting to check the fluid level?

If you don't know when the fluid was changed last you should probably do that pretty soon. If you took the plug out located on the passenger side of the tranny and nothing ran out you may be a bit low on fluid. The manual and others have you fill the tranny with fluid through this plug and when it starts running back out you've got it full.

When I change my fluid I always drain it completely and then refill it using the exact measurements in my manual...4.8Qts through the plug on the top side of the tranny under the battery box/case.

There is a "how to" tab at the top of the site that will give you step by step in how to do it with pictures as a reference.

Going to be doing both check level first then change fluid and filter. I noticed there is a lot of info on what I will classify as the later transmission with the spigot but nothing on my particular trans. I just don't want to be the guy who checks level at the incorrect place not to mention remove the battery and box only to find no fill plug. Is 4.8Qts a good general fill capacity? I will measure what came out but I prefer hard copy information. Thanks guys

Thanks for the info. I checked the amount removed from the transmission and it was just shy of 4.0Qts. Sound reasonable? I don't see any leaks.

Without seeing your car I can only say it sounds about .8Qts short of full based on the Bently Manual. The only way to know for sure is to add 4.8Qts or there about and open the plug on the side you mentioned previously. The easiest way to fill er up is to either us a pump, buy the BMW tool or take the battery & box out to access the plug/opening on the top side of the tranny and add it from there. Once it starts flowing out as long as you have your car level it should be full.
