Bumper trim

I am attaching the chrome trim on a newly painted bumper and I see the top chrome trim is attached with adhesive tape, but I am not sure if the lower piece used adhesive tape.

Are you referring to the lower grill on either the R50 or R53 or the chrome trim parts that could be had on the R50's? I added the chrome grill bits on my R53 a long while ago. If memory serves me, they both had adhesive strips on them.

My wife installed those on her original R50 a long while back. From what I recall, the chrome bumper bits did not have adhesive tape. They did have tabs that required a cutting slots into the bumpers, which she did not do. If I recall, we just slathered a huge amount of silicone adhesive on the backs of the chrome bumper strips, the two fronts and one long one in the rear. Wrapped the bumpers with painters tape as tightly as we could. Worked great. We sold the car several years later. The car was never stored indoors and they never came off. I have my stainless steel "bling rings" on the air vent just below the windscreen glued on the same way. I am the original owner from March 2004, those were installed August 2004 and are still there. No garage for my car either in the 13 years of ownership.
