06 GP Hood won't close / latch on driver side

The hood on my 06 GP with 82,200 won't latch properly on the driver side. This has been going on for a long time but I never bothered with it but now it's bugging me.

I tried adjusting the 10mm bolts for the hinge in every combination possible.

Then I tried pushing the hook itself to see if I could tell a difference between the passenger and driver side.

Seems like the driver side's a lot easier to push and I noticed the inner piece of metal on the hinge did not move together with the thicker piece compared to the passenger side.

Going to order a replacement. Cheapest I found was $48.xx with $10 shipping from turnermotorsport.com and is genuine MINI.

Here's a video of my issue:

Anyone else have this problem?

Well then thanks for all the responses. :D

Replaced the bowden cables just now and everything works perfectly. Replacing the latch did nothing. The driver side cable must have been stretched. Oiled up the cables as well.

It looks like the cable on the left side is too tight. If you compare the 2 the right side sticks out further than the left. Did you try to manually lock that side with the hood open to see if it locks at all?. I usually use a screwdriver or similar to test lathes.

There are separate cables for each side. I can see two cables connected to the pull inside the passenger compartment. As I said when I replaced the Bowden cables the hood latches properly now.

Glad to hear you got it sorted. And sorry I overlooked your bowden cable post I didn't want to see you hanging.
