Spending one quart of oil per month

Hello.

My 2011 Clubman is asking for one quart of oil every month. I have not seen oil leaks in the garage floor. The BMW/MINI service center has not found oil leaks or pressure issues. So far they have found a faulty water pump. The sevice advisor says that MINIs burn oil, but I do not buy that. Is there anything else that can cause this?

Please advise

Thanks.

how did you check? The oil is either going in the separator or the turbo seal is leaking

these run positive vacuum so even with bad rings they really dont burn that way

well that makes it easy, it's the ccv crap, pretty common fault bmw does not care if you are less than 1 quart every 1000 miles or something absurd like that

Which engine does the Clubman have? What do you drive for mileage? It is common thing for BMWs and MINIs to burn oil. My BMW 135is burns altleast a quart a month.

The crankcase vent valve is built into the plastic head cover. I had to replace the cover due to it being both cracked and the CCV being faulty.

BMW/MINI has bulletins regarding burning oil. It is a quart at 1000 miles that is normal.

It's not normal they just don't want to fix it, none of my 20+ BMWs burned any oil including my 135i I bought new in 08 and sold a week ago

My 540i and one of the minth started to burn oil, both were ccv issues

It's not a BMW engine. It is a Peugeot N16 motor on the R55 from 2011. The R56 N14 Peugeots motors have had a lot of oil consumption stories. MINI does state that consumption is reasonable and expected based on the manual.

You will be beating a dead horse with a MINI dealer.

You have the newer engine and non S and yet still burning 1qt in less than 1000 miles ?

What viscosity are you using ?

What was your oil change frequency ?

does not matter, it's a ccv problem or a massive O ring leak somewhere but that would show up on the ground

Yes, N16 should not burn too much oil at all. I would check for an oil leak first. Maybe a sticky CCV in the valve cover?

Hello

The MINI service center replaced the gasket of the cylinder head cover. Got the car back after almost three weeks in the shop.

I'm curious for a summary and a followup. My Mini has the N12 engine, now with over 100,000 miles, but has been using 1 quart per 700 miles since about 65,000 mi on the odometer.

I have no leaks nor see any blue smoke, so I am trying to follow the stories about the PCV valve in the valve cover. Anyone fixed their oil consumption by fixing/replacing the valve cover?

What is the long term effect on an engine of driving with a plugged PCV?

Fixed!

Correction: it was the CCV (crankcase control valve) not the PCV.
