R52 S Oil service indicator will not reset

I just bought an 06 R52 S with 106K miles and I am having trouble reseting the oil service indicator. I have tried reseting it using the trip reset button and I have also tried using the Bavarian Technic software. I spoke to the software people and sent them a log. They can see the command being sent but the reset does not happen. The mileage is counting down just fine, but I have tried all of the reset methods suggested in the Mini Mania guide. no go. I get to the SIA stage but i never see the next RST step. My other Mini resets just fine. I'm at wits end with this one. Any suggestions would be helpful. I just replaced the battery because it seemed weak - no difference.

This won't solve your immediate issue but, I too own a '06 R52 with about that many miles and I have NEVER paid any attention to the computerized nannies. I change oil and rotate tires every time the odometer ends in 5000 or 0000. The nanny can say anything it wants. Try that and it might relieve some of your stress. I have other maintenance scheduled in the same manner at various odometer settings as well.

my 02 was very sensitive to the 'timing' of the sequence of the press, press and hold etc etc

sometimes it would 'take' on the first try

other times it took MANY tries ....

Tnx I'll keep at it. That doesn't explain why the software reset didn't take.

Roger that. But the more complex they keep making these things the worse it going to get. Compared to my co-pilot's '15 R60, my '06 drop head is a Radio Flyer.

Agreed. I really prefer the Gen1 cars.

I may have found the solution. I need to be more than 20% difference between when the service interval was reset (15000) before I can reset it again. I interpret that to mean service indicator must read less than 12000. Im at 12,600 so I have to do a bit of driving before I can check the theory. Will keep you posted. This whole thing cvame up because this is a new car to us and I did not like the brand of oil (Peak) and filter that the shop used. So, I switched to a Mann filter and Castrol Edge 0w40 and I went to reset the service indicator and no go.

nope ..... don't buy it

been an owner since 2002 and doing own maint from early on.

The 20% warning is a perversion of how far early on, dealers were willing to do "free" (aka already paid for) oil changes ....

Done correctly, you CAN reset the computer to the next interval. HOWEVER in the early days this was inadvisable ..... if YOU changed the oil early and reset the counter you tossed everything off for the other 'service procedures' which the dealer looked at the computer alerts for .....

Care to share your method of overriding the reset procedure (bypassing the factory 20% threshold) which affects nearly everyone else (including me) who is bound by it?

In my world, following a reset, if I have not traveled 20% of the distance towards the next 15,500 mile reset (3100 miles), I cannot manually reset the inspection or oil service interval, no matter which method I try, be it via the traditional odometer method or with my Peake scan tool.

The owner's manual is pretty clear in that it cannot be reset unless 20% of the mileage has elapsed.

Yes, please share. If I can't reset it with either the dash method or the Bavarian Technic/computer setup there is something else blocking it. The tech at Bavarian Technic saw the reset command being sent but ignored by the car. I still havent had the opportunity to get down below the 12000 mile threshold to see if the theory is correct. When I do, I'll report back with certainty.

Problem solved!!! It was definitely the lack of meeting the 20% threshold. I just reset it no problem and the mileage reset was 12325 so it was just below the threshold of 12400. Worked like a charm on first try from the dash. I didn't even have to drag out the Bavarian Technic software. Thanks to all who offered suggestions. I can cun put my OCD to rest until the next problem arises LOL.

Still haven't heard the 'magic' method of bypassing the 20% threshold that us mere mortals are held to...

Nor I. When I stumbled upon the 20% limitation written in the manual the light bulb went off
