VANOS ??? on 2010 R56 Mini Cooper Base???

Hi to all,

I know this is probably a really stupid question, but which VANOS solenoid is on bank 1-the front one or the rear one? Thanks a bunch.

Cheers,

Howie

So out of 112 views on this post, nobody knows the answer? I have a P0015 coded and after replacing and cleaning the major contributors to this issue, it still returns. Sometimes it takes a month or so, and now it is pretty regular.

I did clean the VANOS solenoids when I replaced the valve cover gasket and cam sensors. I have sprayed the connectors on the cam sensors and the problem goes away for awhile, but returns later.

When the oil gets a little low it happens as well, but still it is always Bank 1 that is bad. I've researched Google, but have not seen a definitive answer to my question. I ordered a new VANOS so will replace that as it just may be defective even after I've already cleaned it.

Thanks.

Howie

The code P0015 doesn't state if it is the intake or exhaust side, only bank 1, position B. It says it is over-retarded. Anyone know if this would be the front or rear VANOS (OCV) solenoid? The car is being driven with the light on because she has no other transportation. I will receive the new part tomorrow, so just need to know the position.

Cheers

Hey Scooter24,

Yes the code does state position B. I know how to work the problem, however I just don't know which position Bank 1, position B is. However after some further research I think I found out that it is in fact the exhaust solenoid, which is the one on the forward side of the engine.

I will replace it tomorrow when the new one arrives and see how it goes. This is the only code the car has been giving since all of the other repairs were made a couple of months ago. I feel this solenoid is the next logical step as I don't have the specific diagnostic information to carry out a pinpoint test.

Thanks.

I was getting info that bank one would be intake side which is normally A. But with it saying both bank 1 and B was kinda confusing because B is normally for exhaust side. At least you got it covered.

Thanks for the assist. I don't really know how BMW assigns their sensor positions, so I am just guessing to a point. I didn't know if Bank 1 was the front or rear position. I know for the camshaft sensors Bank 1 is the rear position so wasn't sure if the VANOS was the same way. And of course from what I can see, that is not the case.

Because the code didn't specify exhaust or intake, I had to do some research and kind of read between the lines. I guess if I still get the code then I need to put it in the other position, but was just trying not to have to guess. Will see what happens tomorrow. Cheers again.
