EML Light

So I have a 2005 MCS JCW, I love this car. Well I have the EML Light come on every know and then. The thing is I don't have any symptoms after it comes on, I don't lose any power. The car feel exactly the same. I'm honestly not sure what the issue is.

The only thing wrong with the car (right now) is the oil pan gasket is leaking, replacing soon. I didn't realize that I must pull the front end forward which sucks but got to do it don't feel like paying almost 800 bucks. Also a couple of times The check engine light come one, I run the codes and it comes up with the knock sensor. They guys an Mini thinks it's just the sensor just because there is nothing else wrong with the engine.

Any insight on this EML issue would be greatly appreciated.

Is P0326 the code you got? When the EML light comes on does the CEL come on as well? Did you clear the code and then plug in when the light comes on to check what code may be present?

If you have determined you need to replace it, the sensor is fairly inexpensive and you can tackle the job yourself to keep money in your pocket.

What codes are present when the EML or SES lights are on? Many times when the EML is on in a customer car the problem turned out to be a vacuum leak.

Not to say that that is your problem, but 9/10 times I'm seeing a car with an EML light it's due to a vacuum leak.

back up a step

what does the EML light 'mean'?

From the 2005 "all models" owner's manual:

:Engine electronics* +
The engine electronics are malfunctioning.
You can continue to
drive with reduced engine output or engine
speed. Have the vehicle checked as soon as
possible.

Most "codes" are connected to the "check engine light" which is an indicator for the emissions system ..... on the 2005 MINI "service engine soon" = "check engine light"

EML is different ......

So the EML light comes on sometimes maybe 30% of the time when I drive it. Yesterday the light came on, I intentionally drove it fast and I feel no power loss. I will look for Vacuum leaks this weekend to see what I see. Hopefully I can get to the Knock Sensor. Thanks for the insight so far, I will let you know what I find out.
