please identify this engine noise.

http://www.gmini03.com/John/CheMC40Rattle.AVI - my car at idle.

It's a squeak, it's a rattle. It starts up at such a volume and dies down just a bit after about 10 miles of lousy motoring in a 4 day old MINI. It's this loud at ignition if the car has rested for four minutes, or slept overnight. The noise increases with increase in rpms. The dealer has told me it is normal JCW noise. I know better. I don't know what it is. Please help.

Oh. And all that valve tapping. Don't worry - my dealer says that's normal for jcw, too.

Sorry, lost patience with the long download.

The tapping sound is most likely the injectors.

I don't even have to listen to the file.....take it to another dealer that isn't going to feed you a line of B.S. My JCW sounds perfect...no knocking, ticking, rattling, etc. Several other JCWs I have seen don't make any unusual sounds either. There's a problem and they should be providing you a loaner car while they fix THIER problem!!!!!!

yeah after waitting for a while for the download. i heard the sound. that is not normal. with out being there i can not say for sure what it is. could be a rocker, could be the supercharger, or just something not bolted on right. i would take it back and make them fix it. if they will not, call mini and have them get in the mix. it should be an easy fix once you find it, but it should be fixed.good luck

Either that or tell the dealer to show you another JCW that makes that noise.

Thank you, guys

I have brought this thread to the attention of my dealer. It has proven to be very helpful to me even if I had not. They will be taking my car in today. I hope this will be resolved swiftly and as completey.

Salud,
John
