r53 mini cooper s 2005 blowing white smoke. coolant in inner cooler
my car started to blow white smoke so i thought it was the headd gasket.
things i have done so far:
checked the pressure of the coolant ssytem, it did not hold pressure
checked the compressions of each cylinder, 145 psi each. they we all close to each other.
while taking off th inner cooler, there was some coolant in the inside. how would this happen? i believe that there could be something with thhe water pump also, as it had some of the sounds that i have heard on youtube. car has 137k miles. was due for some tlc... any ideas on how coolant would get into the inner cooler??

Interesting..
Have you done a leak down, or tested for combustion gases in the coolant? If not, start with that.
The cooling system and charge air system have nothing in common, so I'd say the coolant is settling in the intercooler as it is being circulated through the PCV system. I'd say you may be in for a HG or cracked head if you're getting coolant into the lubrication system.
Where are you located geographically? It may be getting cold enough where you are and what you're seeing is just condensation due to you not driving the car enough, trace amounts of "water" on the oil cap or in the intake tract could be just that. Condensation due to temperature swings and not driving long enough to boil it out.

I have not done the leak down test, yet. the oil does not look milky, so I don't think the coolant is getting into the oil. I am in Wisconsin, but I don't think its condensation. the liquid in the intercooler, and the supercharger inlet, was definitely coolant, not just water. once I get my Serpentine belt tool, I will be able to get the supercharger/water pump off so I can look at the seals on the water pump.
Long shot..
If the waterpump is leaking bad enough that coolant is able to get past the green gasket on the supercharger intake under vacuum that would also get coolant in the intake tract, and be a better scenario than needing head work.

I got the super charger and water pump off the car. The pto gears actually look ok. The water pump is hard to turn, and has a rattle when I shake it. The end Plate on the other hand... the large gear and shaft wobbles around relatively Feely as though there is not bearing or seal. I think at bare minimum I need to press the gear off the shaft, and replace the berain and seal. Does anyone have a part number or sizes for these 2 parts? I don't want to buy a full kit if I don't need one.
