Leaking fluorescent yellow fluid

Need to pick everyones brain. I took a road trip, ran over something metal on highway, it rolled under the car. Got to friends house, stayed few days and drove back. Got a phone call from them telling me i was leaking something. I had left a big puddle and they couldnt tell what it was. I check oil, its fine, my coolant is blue, and that seems fine. The car is operating fine that i can tell. I place a trash bag under the car and its a florencent yellow, watery fluid and it looks like the leak is between the front wheels, up towards the front part of the engine. There seems to be a large hose in that area with a steel mesh wrap over it. This hose is close to the ground. Thats the best description i can give of the location of the leak. I seen mention of a ac dye, and could be a compressor leak.

The color you describe sure matches what I've seen out of leak testing A/C systems. Down here in the South, we would notice the A/C system not functioning. Have you turned your system on high to see if it is working?

I havent turned it on since summer, im in northern illinois, we are well into fall, no need for it now. However, what would the symptoms of a improper running A/C . No cold air ? Not blowing out of vents? Is there a funny smell?

Yes, There would be a strong smell of the freon. If you turn the AC, you should hear the compressor clutch engage. Even though it is winter time, some times you will need AC for defrosting the windshield. Another way of testing, look for the low side freon inlet. It located on the left side of the radiator suppoet. Push the pin down slowly and see if there is pressure in the system.

Figured out that it is coolant, the yellow must have been old antifreeze in the radiator because i am no longer leaking yellow fluid it is now blue which is my coolant. Taking in tomorrow to have looked at. I have noticed that i do seem to have to fill my reservoir tank more often then one should be.

Sounds like whatever you hit may have damaged the lower radiator hose, you're lucky it didn't pour all the coolant out right then and there.

Other than that, I would have the cooling system looked over if you've been having to top the coolant level off even prior to this happening. You've either got a leak somewhere, or a failed expansion tank cap.
